Milford Sound weather is unpredictable. With the highest annual rainfall than anywhere else in New Zealand, you need to pack some sensible clothing. Make sure you have something warm and waterproof packed away in your rucksack, after all, you wouldn’t want to spend your whole time inside, now would you? Milford is EPIC in the rain and best viewed from the top deck of the Milford Haven, be prepared for hundreds and hundreds of waterfalls.

Sensible shoes

Your day trip to Milford Sound is a long one, so being comfortable is key. Along the Milford Road, our drivers will stop for some epic photo opportunities and short nature walks so be sure to wear something sensible on your feet. Also, it’s important to have good shoes when out on the deck of our boat. Trainers or small hiking shoes are an excellent choice friend.

When you have departed Te Anau you won’t see an another ATM so be prepared with a little cash in your pocket. The Milford Haven has an onboard café and bar, serving up fresh eats sourced from local eateries as well as classic Kiwi Fish & Chips and bacon butties for the early risers. Plus, our team are all barista trained so fresh coffee is a must while cruising the sound.

Food & Water

As we mentioned before the coach trip is a long one after Te Anau there won’t be another snack stop. Be sure to pack some snacks for the coach and a water bottle. If time permits your driver may stop at Monkey Creek, here you can fill your bottle with some fresh glacial-fed water.
