Toby - The Rafting Legend

We live by the moto #GoBeyond and we will continue to go above and beyond in everything we do. So, when we hear about our travellers going beyond, we make sure to go out of our way to make them feel extra epic.

Meet Toby, an immigration agent from the UK who was holidaying in Queenstown for two weeks. During those two weeks Toby joined us on the Shotover River eight times... you heard that right he went whitewater rafting eight times in two weeks, why? Because its epic that’s why! We just had to meet Toby and ask him all about his whitewater rafting experience with Go Orange here in Queenstown.

Where are you from?

I live and work in London in the UK. I have a job in Immigration. I save for five years and then go on one big holiday. This year I chose to fly to Australia and then book two weeks in Queenstown.

Have you been to New Zealand before?

Yes, I came years ago and decided I needed to return and try out some activities in Queenstown.

Why did you decide to go rafting?

I knew before I got here that I wanted to try whitewater rafting and had heard about the Shotover River. After I finished my first trip, I knew that I wanted to try it again in different conditions, so I did. I had the best time so kept booking to experience the river at times of day, each time was more epic than the rest.

How come you decided to total eight times down the Shotover River?

Well, for one it is absolutely amazing. The whole operation from start to finish is brilliant. Every time I went down the river it was different. From the guides safety brief to the pre-chat on the bus down into Skippers Canyon and then guiding on the river. Everyone does it differently and it was always so much fun! I specifically booked for different conditions. It heavily rained one day so I booked for the next day, this meant I could experience the river at a really high flow which was really exciting.

After eight trips you must have a favourite guide?

**Long Pause** I couldn’t say, I don’t want to say, they are all amazing. Luckily, I had a different guide on each trip. If I really had to choose it would be Trish, Horse and Jack. All super funny guides and had a different spin on the river each time.

What was your favourite rapid?

They are all awesome in their own right but if I had to pick one, Rock Garden was my favourite.

Overall how would you describe your time spent rafting in Queenstown?

It was exhilarating, exciting and one of the best things I’ve ever done. I enjoyed the guides company and commentary throughout the trips and the scenery was fantastic. I would highly recommend people to go Whitewater rafting in Queenstown, especially on the Shotover river. We made sure to kit Toby out with his own personal Go Orange gift bag and snapped this photo with him and a handful of our epic guides.

Thanks for being a legend Toby!

Always, #GoBeyond
