Kayaking Doubtful Sound is the kind of experience you'll dine out on for the rest of your life. It's a bold statement, sure but ask anyone who's ever been on one - they'll back us up!
The tour was awesome.
The first things worth seeing are accompanied by interesting information from the captain during the boat trip.
Afterwards we continue in the bus where the bus driver tells a lot about the doubtfully sound, answers questions and slows down at cool places to get a good view.
After a good briefing we will start kayaking. Already at the beginning you will have breathtaking views and at the same time a lot of fun while kayaking. Also the guide has a lot of very interesting information ready and takes care that everybody has a lot of fun on the tour.
If you are lucky and your guide is Dillon, ask him about the 3 most important rules of kayaking.
We've enjoyed a fantastic Kayak Tour with our guide Lydia. She was not only telling a lot about Doubtful Sound and it's spectacular landscape but also was a very friendly and cool person. Was disappointed though not been taught the "eskimo roll" ;-)
Had a great day trip kayaking in doubtful sounds with go orange. Both our guides were a wealth of information (really improved our weather system knowledge) which made the trip more interesting. Unforgettable experience kayaking for 3 hours in a serene peaceful setting getting close to some waterfalls and the incredible scenery. We felt very safe with our guide - especially as the weather changes dramatically in the short time we were there. Our only regret was that we were not there kayaking longer ! (We also experienced snow in spring!)
We went Kayaking with Go Orange in March of 2018 on our trip to NZ. It was a wonderful experience beginning early in the morning and we were looked after competently and superbly by Orange (who also were able to return wet gear that I left behind when packing up). We had a blissful time kayaking in the Sound which is a tranquil and beautiful place. Robbie was a mine of information and a super guide. Highly recommended. Helen and Jane (Ireland)
Years ago I did a boat cruise through Milford Sounds which was fantastic, but lots of people kept telling me that Doubtful Sounds was so much better and a lot quieter. On my second trip back to New Zealand I decided to kayak Doubtful to make it a little more exciting. The i-site recommend Go Orange as a great company to go with.
After a lot of debating I decided to just go for the one day option rather than the overnight stay, purely because I was only in New Zealand for two weeks so was very limited on my time.
The instructors picked me up from my hostel promptly. Whilst it takes a long time to get to the sounds (car, ferry, bus) it flies by because the instructors are really friendly and easy to talk to and we had a guide on the bus describing features as we drove along.
In the kayaks I shared a boat with the instructor and there were two couples in two other kayaks, which was a really nice group size. We didn't see any other people so it was so lovely and peaceful. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and pointed out lots of exciting things like a penguin!
I had such a brilliant time and would highly recommend them.
We had a wonderful time on this expedition with a knowledgeable, fun, and experienced guide. I was especially grateful for the team’s outstanding customer service in locating and shipping back my lost jacket from NZ to the US. All above and beyond expectation. We would definitely use Go Orange again. Thanks for a wonderful trip!
