Kayak Doubtful Sound 3 Days - Itinerary  

  • Make your way to Manapouri, a twenty-minute drive from Te Anau or a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Queenstown

  • Head into the Manapouri Visitor Centre and speak to the team to check in

  • Make sure you check in 15 minutes before your experience
  • Double check you have all your food, snacks, sleeping bag and clothes for the whole three days. Bring these in a small bag, we will pack them in the kayaks at Deep Cove
  • Grab your boarding pass and wait for the Real Journeys boat across Lake Manapouri to West Arm
  • After a one-hour cruise we will arrive at the Manapouri Power Station where your bus awaits
  • When we reach the terminal, follow your driver, he will lead the way to the bus
  • Board the bus for a 45-minute ride over the spectacular Wilmot Pass
  • Make sure to grab some awesome shots along the way, we will stop at the lookout, where you can get your first sighting of Doubtful Sound
  • As we pull into Deep Cove the kayak guides will be waiting for you
  • Head to the kayak base to gear up
  • Change into the thermals, spray jacket, life vest and spray skirt provided
  • Listen as the guides work through the safety briefing and route plan for the duration of your experience
  • Pack your phone, camera and snacks into the dry bags provided
  • Head out into the sound for your kayak adventure
  • Explore deeper around Doubtful Sound visiting small coves and islands
  • Bring snacks to enjoy as we take short breaks
  • Keep your eye out for the Doubtful Sound dolphins or penguins, they may make an appearance
  • Paddle for around four to five hours a day working your way to our overnight camp
  • Get to camp, cook up your food and enjoy the evening
  • Don’t forget your Sandfly spray, and clothes to keep warm at night
  • Day 2 requires that paddle strength and motivation to make it to Camp 2, don’t worry the epic scenes will help you along the way
  • Paddle for around five hours, exploring hidden coves and islands
  • Cook your dinner over the open fire, spin yarns with your new friends and guides before settling into your tent for the night
  • Day three we will pack up camp and kayak around the fiord one last time, slowly making your way back to base with the team
  • Unload, change and hand back all your gear at Deep Cove ready to jump on the bus over the Wilmot Pass
  • Cruise over Lake Manapouri back to the Manapouri Visitor Centre
  • Drive safe on your travels and get ready to upload your epic shots to the gram

When you book an multi-day adventure with Go Orange a pre-departure meeting will be organised. We will get together chat about the experience and ensure you have everything packed before we depart Manapouri.
